A Very Graphic Birthday Story: Plotted With Geometrically Challenged Puns
About
What do you do when a group of pun-fully argumentative shapes cannot agree on how to get to the birthday party on time? You call Shapeshifter Bob and his sidekicks Pony Pencil-Neck and his dog Eraser. A Very Graphic Birthday Story is a great simple introduction to geometrical shapes loaded with absurdity and fun. Perfect for ages 4-8, but not making any promises that it won’t be a favorite amongst all kids at heart!
Praise for this book
A Very Graphic Birthday Story is such a clever and different book. I really liked how the author took geometry terms and turned them into actual characters with personalities, jokes, and lots of wordplay.
The story is about getting everyone to Decagon’s birthday party on time, and along the way kids are introduced to lines, angles, circles, squares, triangles, hexagons, octagons, and several other shapes and math terms.
I thought the puns were fun, and some of them will probably make the adults reading along smile too. I also liked that the geometry is worked into the actual story instead of just feeling like a lesson.
The illustrations have a very unique style that fits the humor of the book, and the geometry review at the end is a nice way to go back over everything children were introduced to.
I do think some of the wordplay may be a little advanced for very young children, but for kids who are starting to learn geometry, this is a really creative way to make it feel more fun and memorable.
Overall, I thought this was clever, educational, funny, and definitely different from most children’s books I’ve read.
I absolutely loved the book, as did my 9-year-old grandson. He is homeschooled, and we happened to be studying the different types of shapes in the book. On several occasions, we laughed out loud. I loved seeing his face when he realized learning could be fun. A Very Graphic Birthday Story is cute and educational. The illustrations turned each shape into its own little character. A great job on the wordplay. I would highly recommend it for any home or school library.
Okay! This is super funny, or should I say "punny". Its a fun book filled with some knee slapping puns.
This was such a fun little educational book. It provided a story line, puns, and the names of geometric shapes in a style that will stick with readers and help them remember the important content. I would recommend to those struggling with geometry or anyone who just loves math and puns.
